I was able to test Ceramicspeed’s latest lubricant
: UFO drip. The product isn’t available yet! but a bottle was set aside for me at
Eurobike. Thanks to Jason Smith (the developer) for thinking of me!
I’d already talked about this new product here! so now it Ceramicspeed UFO was time to try it and
see if the advertised qualities in terms of lubrication and performance were there
.
To do this! I started by testing a chain lubricated
with Finish Line Ceramic Wet. The chain is a telegram data Dura Ace 11-speed with 1!000 km. Before
any test! it is important to clean the chain thoroughly. I used ultrasound and a
specific product to achieve perfect degreasing. To convince yourself
! just see what can still come out of the links of a chain simply
degreased with a brush and a conventional product!
The chain was then dried and coated with Finish Line
the measurement I used a Powertap G3+ SRM to quantify the friction loss
between the crankset and the hub.
SRM + Powertap G3
The same chain was then degreased again with
ultrasound and this time coated with UFO drip. I applied the
product generously to the links as how to use bedrock and trellis at kinsta recommended using 10 ml of UFO (
180 ml bottle). The product before drying is very liquid! so you have to be
gentle when applying it or you risk spilling some. After a
night of drying! you find a very clean chain but which produces some
shavings of white wax on the first turns betting email list of the cranks (like the
Ceramicspeed treated chains). It must be broken in for a few kilometers for it to be perfect! the excess is thus eliminated and does not produce unsightly clumps in the derailleur pulleys for example.
